| What have I done in my time?
Played bass in bands in South London in the 80s, with some interesting and talented people, such as pianist Chris Kibble and Nipple Erectors guitarist Gavin Douglas. Got seriously interested in recording from my first band studio session in an 8-track a long time back in 1981. Even recorded at the legendary BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Eventually got my own 8-track in 1988. Began programming using C-Lab Creator, the ultimate ancestor of Logic Pro which I use today - how many people can say they have been using the same family of music production software for 20 years? Got some programming work and also did quite a lot of library and production music in the 90s. Had also done a course in DX7 programming and for a while had a contract with a publisher of DX sounds (aaah.. the digital 80s) Taught Music Tech (Cubase, Programming, Synthesis and Sound Design and more) on Level 2 and 3 courses at South Thames College in London from 1994 to 1999. Moved to the Isle of Wight for family reasons in 1999. Did further programming work back in London, also recording artists in my own project studio - this carries on to the present day. Have done the odd remix. Did a little more teaching down here, recorded some live performances and did a little consulting. Until about 2004 was very involved in the Music Producers Guild, particularly on the education side of things. Have several times been a visiting producer on the Glamorgan University/MPG Recording Summer School, working with students to record live bands. Moved to Southsea (Portsmouth) in May 2008. After a lot of big life changes, got busy again! Currently working on: Tracks for my second and third albums (one will develop the direction of Scattered Stars with vocals, the other will be an out-and-out meditative/ambient work for my Reiki sessions) ; Tracks with Brian Crisp; A songwriting project with singer Kirk James; Instrumental material with sax and flute player Gary Plumley. I'm currently (June 09) working on a mix of a dance track for a client. This is is a nice direction to go in - I'd like to do more! Contact me for rates. I'm very reasonable, especially for unsigned acts and bedroom producers. I have now joined the band Us in the Portsmouth area as bass player and am rehearsing some excellent original material to gig in the autumn. |
